A Bit About Me
I’m Jonathan A. S. Macdonald, a student currently completing a Level 6 qualification in Music Composition. My work centres on film composition, field recording, sound design, and production, driven by a passion for using sound to tell stories and create emotional connections.

Unlike many musicians, I didn’t begin my journey with natural talent — instead, I started with a deep passion and a strong family connection to music. After finishing school, I taught myself a single song on one instrument to audition for a performance course, where I earned a Merit. From there, I moved into music production, again achieving a Merit, and gradually merged performance and production into a combined creative practice.

My Level 4 and 5 studies in Music Production, with a focus on composition, gave me a unique perspective on both the performance and production worlds. Today, that experience allows me to create at a standard I’m truly proud of. Alongside my formal studies, I also have lifetime access to ThinkSpace Education courses, which I continue to use for professional development and plan to build on further in the future.

Being autistic is also a vital part of my creative identity. My perspective enables me to notice fine details, textures, and patterns that others might miss. I channel this into compositions, recordings, and sound designs that are both original and expressive, seeing my autistic expression as a strength that fuels creativity and collaboration.

Beyond music, I’m passionate about woodworking, restoration projects, 3D printing, and other creative initiatives. I often find ways to connect these interests with my musical world — whether through building tools, experimenting with materials, or exploring the crossover between craft and sound.

As I continue developing my craft and building my portfolio, I’m seeking new opportunities to collaborate, innovate, and push sound into fresh and meaningful directions.

Hobbies & Interests
What are my hobbies and interests?
My hobbies and interests reflect a balance of creativity, craftsmanship, and personal expression. I have a passion for woodworking, metalworking, and 3D printing, which allow me to design and build unique projects by hand. I also take inspiration from vintage culture, particularly typewriters, stationery, and calligraphy, which influence the character and style of my creative work. Alongside these interests, I am a dedicated fan of Doctor Who and enjoy supporting and collaborating with others in both artistic and personal settings.
